One Touch Reveal
Designed to help users better manage their diabetes
One Touch Reveal is a mobile app designed to help users better manage their diabetes while making the experience intuitive, supportive, and empowering.
Enhancing the User Experience for Diabetes Management
Overview
Managing diabetes is a lifelong journey, and the tools used to monitor and track health metrics can make all the difference in improving patient outcomes. When I joined the Tonic team, we faced a unique challenge: to redesign the OneTouch Reveal mobile app to help users better manage their diabetes while making the experience intuitive, supportive, and empowering. The original app was functional, but it lacked the user-friendly interface and personalization that patients needed for daily health tracking.
As a Senior Product Designer, I led the redesign process, working alongside cross-functional teams to ensure the app met both the technical requirements and the needs of the users. My goal was to make the app not just a tool, but a trusted partner in each patient's health journey.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
The original OneTouch Reveal app faced significant usability challenges that impacted user engagement and overall effectiveness. Patients found it difficult to navigate between critical features, leading to missed glucose readings, inconsistent data logging, and frustration with the app’s complexity. The existing user interface was cluttered, making it hard for users to focus on what mattered most—monitoring their health in real-time.
Project Goals
The core objectives of this redesign were:
Simplify the user experience to make the app more intuitive for patients of all ages.
Prioritize essential features like glucose tracking, data visualization, and health metrics, enabling users to take control of their health.
Increase user engagement by enhancing the app’s ability to provide personalized, actionable insights.
Improve accessibility to make diabetes management easier and more consistent for patients.
My Role
Position: Senior Product Designer
Responsibilities:
Led the UI/UX redesign of the app, focusing on the core functionality and patient-centric design principles.
Conducted usability assessments to identify pain points in the current app and inform the redesign process.
Worked closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, product managers, and healthcare professionals, to ensure the app met both user and clinical needs.
Designed a new personalized dashboard that makes it easy for users to track critical health data in one place.
Design Process & Solutions
User-Centric Dashboard Redesign The main screen was redesigned to become the central hub for glucose monitoring and activity logging. We streamlined navigation, making it easy for users to record key health metrics such as food intake, water consumption, and exercise. This approach simplified diabetes management, allowing patients to easily track critical data at a glance.
Glucose Monitoring Enhancements Managing blood glucose levels is essential for patients with diabetes. Our redesign focused on providing users with real-time access to their readings, alongside trends and recent events. The app was enhanced to include quick access to the logbook, patterns, graphs, and reminders, ensuring that the most important tools were immediately available. These additions turned the app into a comprehensive resource for patients, encouraging consistent engagement.
90-Day Data Tracking To give users insight into their progress, the app was equipped to store 90 days of data. This extended data history allows users to reflect on their journey, evaluate trends, and identify areas for improvement. It provides a powerful reference point, enabling patients to make more informed health decisions.
Personalized Profile Customization Recognizing that each patient’s needs are unique, we introduced customizable profiles. Patients can now track their glucose levels pre- and post-meal, and store essential contact information for healthcare providers and emergency contacts. This level of personalization ensures the app is tailored to the user, offering an experience that goes beyond standard data tracking.
Outcome
The enhanced OneTouch Reveal app delivered a more intuitive and supportive experience for diabetes management. With a redesigned interface, improved data accessibility, and customizable features, users found it easier to engage with the app and stay consistent with their health goals. The patient-focused improvements have made a significant impact, empowering users to take greater control of their diabetes management journey.
This project underscored the importance of empathetic design, demonstrating how an optimized UX can be a powerful ally for users navigating complex health challenges.
